The band consisted of Elliott Smith (guitar and vocals), Neil Gust (guitar and vocals), Brandt Peterson (bass), who was later replaced by Sam Coomes of Quasi, and Tony Lash (drums). They were known for their lyrics and songwriting, often characterized by a contrast between melancholic and more upbeat words and melodies.
