Red 40 were a Jawbreaker-influenced trio from Little Rock, Arkansas. They began playing shows in and around the Little Rock area and released a demo in 1994 by the band themselves. Their first record, the Date at the Payphone seven-inch by Landmark Records, came out in the following year. Red 40 disbanded in 1996. After the breakup of Red 40, bassist-vocalist Ben Nichols moved to Memphis, where he started a short-lived band called Lucky Old Sun which only ever recorded a demo and then founded Lucero.
